Region 8 was hailed as the most improved region by the National Electrification Administration (NEA) presented during the Regional NEA-EC Lumens Awards 2018 last July 13 at Ciriaco Pavilion Hotel, Calbayog City.
NEA cited the region’s achievement wherein 10 out of its 11 ECs earned the AAA categorization. The AAA categorization is the highest rating given by NEA to an EC which indicates an EC’s full compliance with NEA’s key performance standards on four parameters, namely, institutional, financial, technical and reportorial requirements.
“Region 8 is the Most Improved Region kasi, talagang nag-improve silang lahat,” NEA chief said during the press conference held at Ciriaco Hotel.
“We are happy to conduct a Regional Lumens Awards for the ECs in Region 8 because this is the first time that all ECs here are categorized as AAA except NORSAMELCO but it has improved tremendously from an ailing EC to a Category A. So we would like to honor these ECs,” Masongsong added.
Electric coops who got the AAA categorization, or the highest score, given by NEA were LEYECO I/DORELCO, LEYECO II, LEYECO III, LEYECO IV, LEYECO V, BILECO, ESAMELCO, SAMELCO I, SAMELCO II, and SOLECO. Northern Samar Electric Cooperative (NORSAMELCO) was also recognized for soaring from Category B in the year 2016 to a Category A electric cooperative in 2017.
Further, the 11 electric cooperatives were also given the EC Resiliency Award for resolutely standing against all odds by posting exceptional improvement in all aspects of operation despite of the many calamities, tragedies and catastrophes that haunt the Region every now and then.
NEA Administrator Edgardo R. Masongsong challenged the 11 electric cooperatives of the region to ensure that these awards received be translated into improvement in their services for the member-consumer-owners (MCOs), to keep upgrading their services and to remain responsive to the needs of their MCOs.
Administrator Masongsong together with top officials of the state-run NEA graced the momentous regional event. The event was attended by the former DILG Secretary, Hon. Mel Senen S. Sarmiento and the Mayor of Calbayog City, Ronaldo P. Aquino.
