The entry of the Cabucgayan National School of Arts and Trade, ‘Liwanag,’ emerged victorious after being adjudged as the best documentary film in the 1st BILECO Documentary Film Competition held on July 4, 2017 at the Amethyst’s, Caneja Ext., Naval, Biliran.
‘Liwanag’ received a nod from the judges with its complete and artistic storyline.
The ‘Light for Life’ of NSU Laboratory High School which bagged the most special awards came a close second. NSU-LHS took home Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing awards and Maria Leanne Pancito won as Best Director.
The ‘May Liwanag ang Bukas’ of ICT High School of Eastern Biliran came third. Manlabang National High School with its entry ‘BILECO Power, Industry Mover,’ won the Best Production Design award.
One of the members of the panel of judges, Mr. Rico Lucena, a former anchor of ABS-CBN Cebu, shared some tips in creating a good documentary film highlighting the importance of taking a good picture, audio recording and the making of a good story. Other judges, Maestro Butch de Veyra and Mr. Michael Aguilos, admired the young filmmakers of their output and encouraged them to keep practicing to enhance their skills.
Nine entries of the documentary film were submitted and screened by BILECO last July 3 to determine the five entries which will make it for the final judging. The theme of the documentary was Power for Progress giving emphasis on the role of BILECO in the development of Biliran province.
Other qualified entry was ‘The Candlelight’ of the Cathedral School of La Naval.
The documentary film was one of the contests held during the Clash of Juniors, a skills and intellectual competition among junior high schools in the province of Biliran, alongside Spelling Bee and Quiz Bowl.
