The equipment for the Microgrid Project in Higatangan island successfully arrived from South Korea to Naval last December 21 after going through the tedious government process for importation.

On December 22, the equipment were unloaded from the wing type van at the Naval port with the presence of the Korean donors and representatives of the Korean government. The rest of the equipment aboard the 40-footer trailer truck arrived and were unloaded at the Naval port the following day.

Shipment of the equipment from Naval to Higatangan was delayed due to the unavailability of prearranged barge. Having the persistence to meet the target, BILECO made all ways possible to ship the equipment tonight, December 26. Once installation is completed at the prepared site in Higatangan island, the Koreans will do the testing and commissioning and system training to BILECO technical personnel.

BILECO broke ground on the microgrid project last August 27 with the presence of MLGU Naval, through Mayor Gerard Roger Espina, who said it could potentially boost tourism in the island opening more job opportunities for the locals.

The project is composed of photovoltaic panels, power conditioning system, diesel generator and energy storage system. With this development, BILECO could supply power to the entire island for 24 hours until the energy demand permits. Target turn-over and start of operation is before the end of January next year.
