BILECO is now bracing for the projected onslaught of tropical storm “Urduja” which is expected to make landfall over Northern Samar – Eastern Samar area between tomorrow morning and afternoon according to the latest forecast of PAGASA.
As early as yesterday, there had been reported power outages in several areas in the franchise area of BILECO particularly in the northeastern part of the province. Feeder 2 comprised of Biliran, Cabucgayan, Caibiran and Culaba had experienced intermittent power interruptions due to strong winds.
As of 12PM today, December 15, 19% of barangays have no power.
BILECO General Manager, Engr. Gerardo N. Oledan, instructed all personnel to observe the standard operating procedures in the pre- and post-storm assessment and response. Line personnel were already deployed and attending reports on the areas with no power.
As early as yesterday evening, BILECO had issued an advisory to all its member-consumers to charge all rechargeable devices and emergency lamps as part of contingency measures while power is still available.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) had also reported today several transmission lines and facilities in Samar affected by the tropical storm. So far, transmission lines serving Biliran is still energized.
BILECO continued to advise its member-consumers to observe safety precautions in dealing with broken or damaged electrical connections.
As of 2PM today, Biliran is still under storm signal number 2.
