BILECO held its 34th Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA) on August 27, 2022, with the theme, “Leaving No One Behind: Achieving Social Equitability Through Rural Electrification and Empowerment of Biliran Communities.” The coop aired the event through Facebook Live on its official FB page in which the members were advise to register in advance using the BILECOnek mobile app and were encouraged to watch the event.
The Provincial Governor of Biliran, Hon. Gerard Roger M. Espina, was cordially invited as guest speaker of the event but he was represented by Vice-Governor Brigido C. Caneja III due to conflicting schedules. The latter headed the oathtaking of the newly-elected board of directors of BILECO from the seven districts of Biliran during the program.
General Manager Gerardo N. Oledan, in his message, delivered the good news to all its member-consumer-owners on the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Biliran Geothermal Incorporated (BGI) and BILECO. He mentioned that BGI has a 2.5-megawatt capacity and when it starts to operate will help improve the coop’s electric distribution service within its franchise area. He added that BILECO has a plan to construct its own generation facility and is expected to be realized by 2026 depending on the coop’s projected demand.
During the preliminaries, FSD Manager Maria Leizyl Q. Garcia discussed and explained the cause of power rate hike which is of great concern to the member-consumer-owners (MCOs) recently. TSD Manager Carlitus Casinillo, likewise followed the said discussion stating the various causes of service power interruptions in the franchise area and reports on power reliability and power quality.
The AGMA is a yearly event where MCOs gather to discuss the coop’s report as well as issues affecting the electric distribution utility and the member-consumer-owners.
