Around 5,327 or equivalent to 16.32% of the total member-consumers flocked at the Biliran Province State University Gymnasium in Naval, Biliran to participate in BILECO’s 32nd annual general membership assembly (AGMA), October 19.
Anchored on the theme “Sustaining the Strategic Partnership of the NEA-EC-MCOs Towards Rural Development and Nation-Building”, this year’s keynote speaker is NEA Administrator Edgardo Rama Masongsong, the key proponent of the member consumer empowerment program.
The NEA chief pointed out the importance of empowering member-consumer-owners (MCOs) as vital partners in attaining sustainable rural development thru rural electrification program.
The NEA Administrator presented the plan to create an ECCO BANK wherein the members can save money and earn from it thru interest from loans. According to Admin Masongsong, this will mobilize resource from the electricity consumers in order to finance rural development programs and reinforce President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s AmBisyon Natin 2040 with the aim to improve and uplift the quality of life of every Filipino family.
GM Allan L. Laniba, the President of the National Association of General Managers of Electric Cooperatives (NAGMEC), emphasized on the accomplishment of the One EC MCO movement thru the four party-list representatives in Congress. He assured the MCOs that the four representatives are genuinely representing and fighting for the interest of the energy and electrification sector especially the electric coops and the MCOs.
During the event, NEA Admin Masongsong led the oath-taking of the barangay, district and provincial member-consumer electrification committee officers. The newly-inducted officers will serve as partners in the implementation of programs and projects that will promote rural development. Likewise, he administered the induction of newly elected BOD in Kawayan, Dir. Wilberto Caridad.
The assembly has approved the amendments of BILECO Constitution and By-laws, CBA for 2019- 2024, endorsement to Congress the increase of senior citizen discount of electricity consumers and the establishment of ECCO Bank for MCOs.
Also present were Cong. Gerry Boy Espina and Naval Mayor Gerard Roger Espina who delivered messages and welcomed all guests and visitors.
