In commemoration with the 10th National Electrification Awareness Month (NEAM), BILECO along with other electric cooperatives in the country joined the Nationwide Tree Planting and Line Clearing dubbed as Golden aim for Green with the theme “Fulfilling the Vision of an Empowered Nation” held at Sitio Magtaran-an, Barangay Talustusan, Naval, Biliran, today, August 30.
Over 200 mahogany seedlings were successfully planted in coordination with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Biliran led by Mr. Nerio C Guya, the OIC Division Chief of the Technical Services and Dr. Berlina Corzon, Senior Ecosystem Management Specialist.
Said activity kicked off with an opening program where in prior to the event, Dr. Corzon conducted an orientation on the proper handling and planting of the seedlings.
In his opening remarks, GM Oledan said that a quarterly monitoring will be set by the management in order to foster the growth and development of the planted trees. Engr. Oledan, also took the chance to discuss the Sitio Electrification Program to inform the barangay council on NEA’s and BILECO’s mandate of electrifying all households within its coverage area.
Meanwhile, Engr. Casinillo, the TSD Manager of BILECO, discussed the objectives of conducting the line clearing activity. He even highlighted some points on Republic Act 11361 or the Anti Obstruction of Power Lines Act which seeks to maintain and rehabilitate not only the transmission and sub-transmission lines but also the distribution lines to prevent power outages and to ensure reliable and continuous supply of electricity.
The tree planting and line clearing is annually conducted in support to the National Greening Program of the government.
