BILECO management and employees distributed relief goods to more than 70 families of Sitio Ilawod in Caraycaray, Naval last December 28, one of the badly-hit areas of tropical storm Urduja.
The relief packs contained assorted grocery items like rice, canned goods, noodles, milk, sugar, coffee, among others.
GM Gerardo Oledan narrated during his opening message his personal experience in manning, together with the barangay officials, the evacuation of residents of the heavily-flooded sitio.
He said that their village was chosen as recipient to the project as he personally witnessed the devastation brought by ‘Urduja’, with several families homeless and a community littered with rubble and debris as an aftermath.
He reminded the residents that when authorities notify for evacuation, they must do so without hesitation as it is for their own good.
“Some of us only respond if our lives are nearly or already in danger,” Oledan quipped.
“It is the responsibility of the government to ensure a zero casualty or fatality during calamities, thus, early warnings must be taken heed of,” he added.
The distribution of relief goods was BILECO’s alternative to Handog Pamasko activity supposedly scheduled last December 15 for the less fortunate families in Caibiran district.
